The Edward Wisner Donation, commonly known as the Wisner Trust, was established in 1914 through the generosity of Edward Wisner, a Michigan native who moved to Louisiana in the late 1880s. A visionary in banking, agriculture, and land management, Wisner dedicated his legacy to improving the quality of life in his adopted home of New Orleans.

He formalized his commitment by donating 50,000 acres of land in southeast Louisiana, stipulating that proceeds support charitable institutions, including the Salvation Army,  Charity Hospital of New Orleans, Tulane University, and the City of New Orleans, alongside his heirs.

The Mayor of New Orleans serves as the Donation’s Trustee, acting with the guidance of the Edward Wisner Donation Trust Management Board. The Board includes representatives of Charity Hospital / Louisiana State University, the Salvation Army, and the Wisner Group, which comprises of heirs or representatives.
