Mitigation for Slip D filled in a pond between Slip D and Highway 3090, creating a 100-acre Coastal Wetlands Park with tidal creeks. A jogging path and boardwalks are planned for the next phase. The GLPC applied for a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to build an observation deck and parking area. Wisner and GLPC signed an MOU on June 11, 2020, making the area a public recreation site in perpetuity. The park opened on August 13, 2021. In October 2024, the Port received the American Association of Port Authorities’ Excellence in Environmental Practices (Small Ports) award.
